Nanotechnology in cosmetics

The nanotechnology is the science studying the microscopic materials or devices with dimensions ranging from 1 to 100 nanometers. To fully understand how small these materials really are imagine particles 100,000 times smaller than the width of a human hair. Nanotechnology is one of the most recently developed sciences but it managed to get into our everyday life incredibly fast.

One of the fields in which nanotech became an important factor is represented by cosmetics and body care. Many of the cosmetic products that can be found in drugstores or even malls and supermarkets are the results of nanotechnology applications. (more…)

From microscope to telescope

The science nowadays reached unexpected levels of development. The newest cutting edge technologies continue to develop and they are immediately introduced in research. The microscopes and telescopes are among the instruments without which many scientific discoveries would not have been made.

The history of the instrument used for observing objects too small to be seen with the naked eye starts around 1600 when the first optical microscopes were developed. Just half a century later the microscopes were used widely for research in Italy, Holland and England. A very important step in the development of microscopy was made in 1893 when August Köhler implemented a new technique for sample illumination known as Köhler illumination. (more…)

Desktop laptop or tablet?

The computers and gadgets are present in our everyday life more than ever. Many youngsters cannot imagine life without the computer or mobile phone. These devices practically took over our lives and converted many of us in technology addicts.

The desktop computers that at first were used only at work later entered our houses and became personal computers. Their size diminished, their speed increased and their accessibility improved, the desktop reaching incredible performances. According to some statistics there are about 1 billion computers in the world and the number of users might be double. (more…)

Artificial intelligence

The artificial intelligence it’s a scientific major objective that many scientists hope to achieve. The artificial intelligence consists in a man created system that is aware of the environment and takes actions according to the past and current experience. This process of learning from past experiences and taking action as a reaction to present situation is common among living creatures. The computers or robots have a limited response which depends on the previous programming. (more…)

The first module consisting in a apace laboratory named Tiangong 1 is scheduled to be launched in October 2011. This target vehicle is made of a lab module, a resource module and a docking mechanism, having a final mass of only 9 tons. In this phase a crew of three astronauts will go in space with Tiangong 1 for a short term stay in space. (more…)
