In the last decades, the population worldwide was influenced by economic factors. The search for a good job and the better living conditions that can be found in large cities attracted even more people. This trend can be observed at the global level and if we take each large city in part we can definitely conclude that the largest cities in the world are still growing.

The largest cities can be evaluated in two different ways. The first is to take into consideration only the population within the city borders (without the suburbs) while the second comparison take into consideration all people living in the metropolitan area. (more…)

The world is now facing one unprecedented situation: the population ageing. Basically the people lives longer and the number of children is smaller than before so the global median age of population is slowly and constantly rising. This situation can be found all over the world in almost all countries.

There are just few countries around the world that don’t have this demographic problem. The rest of the world is more or less affected by population ageing. In the developed countries the population ageing is more pronounced while in the less undeveloped countries the population ageing process is not that significant. (more…)

In the last two decades the scientists have repeatedly drew attention over the danger of North Pole ice melting. Several surveys were conducted during this time and each one appears to confirm the inevitably ice melting in the North Pole area.

At first the figures were not so disturbing showing just a small acceleration in the melting process, with some solid consequences in one or two centuries. This created the illusion that the ice cap melting is not a serious threat and could even be prevented with drastic short-term actions. (more…)

El Nino effects on worldwide climate

El Nino is a natural phenomenon that takes place every few years in the Pacific Ocean. El Nino consists in a slight warming of the eastern Pacific Ocean surface and high air pressure over the western Pacific Ocean. The opposite variations in western Pacific water temperature (lower temperature) and surface air pressure (lower pressure) is called anti-El Nino or La Nina. The two climate variations occur at different time intervals, but the average distance between two phenomenon is five years. (more…)

The life expectancy at birth represents the average number of years that the individuals born in the same year are expected to live if the mortality rate remains the same in the future.

The life expectancy can be influenced by many factors including: gender, life quality and the development of the medical care system. The life expectancy for women is few years higher than the life expectancy for men so we will also take a look at the life expectancy of male and female. (more…)
