History’s worst dictators

Since the beginning of the human kind, true monsters managed to gain power and became feared leaders. Unlike the common belief that the ancient times were more violent, the history’s worst dictators lived in recent times. The world’s most feared tyrants, who are responsible for massive crimes against humanity with more than 20 million victims each, lived in 20th century.

These tyrants, guilty of killing millions of people, are:

– Joseph Stalin governed the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics between 1924 and 1953. He was a communist and he established a revolutionary regime. The facts surrounding Stalin’s death, on March 5th 1953, are not known with certainty, but is believed that he died by poisoning.

– Adolph Hitler ruled in Germany as the absolute dictator from 1934 to 1945. He was a fascist and his political actions led to the outbreak of the World War II in Europe. He was responsible for the Holocaust, the genocide of 11 million to 17 million people. He committed suicide, on 30th April 1945, after being defeated. Hitler shot himself in the temple with a semi automatic pistol while simultaneously biting a cyanide capsule.

– Mao Tse-Tung was the communist leader of People’s Republic of China, starting from its establishment in 1949 until his death in 1976. He installed a revolutionary regime and died on September 9th 1976 after several heart attacks and 2 days on life support equipments.
