Protest in Iran mark the revolution anniversary

This week Iran celebrates the 31st anniversary of the Islamic Revolution that market the end of the western influence and the start of the Iranian Islamic republic. The 1979 Islamic revolution in Iran contributed to the extension of the Islamic fundamentalism throughout the Middle East and South Asia.

This year the anniversary is marked by oppositions’ large protests started last year after the presidential elections. The opposition organized the so-called Green Movement, asking for social justice, freedom and democracy in demonstrations throughout the country. The dissident’s slogans are now quite identical to those used by insurgents during the 1979 Islamic revolution. (more…)

A new U.S. vs. Russia Arms Race

At the beginning of the December, Russia confirmed that has a deal to sell surface-to-air missiles to Iran. Although Russian officials insist that the missiles are for defense only, United Sates and Israel criticized the deal. Thanks to the missiles the new anti-aircraft Iranian system will be capable to shoot down American or Israeli fighter jets in case of an air strike on Iran’s nuclear facilities. Earlier this year Russia faced international criticism when agreed to sell missile systems to Syria. (more…)
