The paintings of famous artists of the 19th and 20th century are now among the most precious paintings. These creations have been sold several times over time and their prices went higher each time. To create this top ten their transaction value was adjusted to the inflation rate so these prices are equivalent to the current purchasing power of US dollar.
The painting No. 5, 1948, by Jackson Pollock is not present in this top ten although it might be the most expensive painting ever. According to a New York Times article the painting was sold in 2006 for $140 million which adjusted to the inflation rates would mean more than $155 million which makes it the #1 most expensive painting.
