Jamaica, the country with the world’s best sprinters at this time

At the 2008 Summer Olympics held in Beijing, Jamaican athletes won six gold medals, three silver medals and two bronze medals, totalizing 11 medals. This was the best ever participation of Jamaica at the Summer Olympics. Jamaican athletes dominated the both, men and women 100 m, 200 m and 4×100 m relay races.

The long list of Jamaican athletes that won medals at Beijing includes Usain Bold, Michael Frater, Nesta Carter, Asafa Powell, Shelly-Ann Fraser, Melaine Walker, Veronica Campbell-Brown, Sherone Simpson, Kerron Stewart, Shericka Williams and Kerron Stewart. (more…)

Around the world sailing records

The first ship which sailed around the world was lead by Juan Sebastián Elcano and had on board the remaining members of Ferdinand Magellan’s crew who completed their journey around the world in 1522.

The first person that circumnavigated the world is Joshua Slocum, who made the record in 1897 with the 36-foot-9-inch (11.20 m) oyster sloop named “Spray”. The oyster sloop was personally rebuilt by Slocum so he can sail single-handed around the world. (more…)
