The ancestor of the modern cruise ships is Prinzessin Victoria Luise, designed by Albert Ballin, completed in 1900. The vessel was used to cross the Atlantic, the journey never taking less than four days. In time, the race for more passengers forced ocean liners to add many luxuries and to increase the comfort. Titanic was famous at the time of its completion for fine dining and well-appointed staterooms. After 1970s the interest for vacation cruises started to grow, and with it the cruise ship statures.

Oasis of the Seas is the largest and most revolutionary passenger cruise ship in the world. Property of Royal Caribbean International, Oasis is the first of her class and is expected to be joined by her sister ship Allure of the Seas in November 2010. Oasis of the Seas was completed in October 28th, 2009 and and started her first voyage on 5 December 2009.

Oasis of the Seas has a capacity of 5,400 guests (double occupancy), 6,296 guests (total) and 2,165 crew members from over 65 countries. Oasis measures 225,282 gross tons, is 1,187 feet (362 m) long and sits 236 feet (72 m) above the water line. Oasis also has 16 passenger decks, 24 passenger elevators 4 bow thrusters with 7,500 horse power each and has a cruising speed of 22.6 knots.

During the cruises the passengers can spend their time onboard at the casino, on the mini-golf course, in the clubs, bars and lounges, at the karaoke club, comedy club or make some sport swimming in one of the four swimming pools, playing volleyball or basketball.

Oasis of the Seas departure port is Fort Lauderdale, Florida and is currently cruising in Caribbean Sea.
